Hi, I’m Helen Huang (Zhi Huang), the candidate for Melbourne representing Fusion Party.

I’ve lived in Melbourne for 32 years since leaving China. As a single mother of four, I ran my domestic building business while pursuing fiction writing. These experiences drive my commitment to improving our community.
My political thriller, Nuclear Power: Nuclear Game, published in 2021, reflects my six years as an architect at China’s first nuclear power institute. This background informs my views on nuclear development, and I aim to advocate for nuclear peace.
As a businesswoman, I focus on policies that enhance Melbourne’s living conditions and environment while restoring trust in our government and justice system.

MY PRINCIPLE GUILDERLINE

**A New Melbourne (A national hub for innovation, industry & finance / High-speed rail) **

I came to Melbourne to pursue a Master’s in Architecture because I admired its culture and strong economy. However, over the last 32 years, I have witnessed the city struggle. Our economy, particularly over a decade of Duopoly’s (ALP & LNP) policies, has suffered significantly. Once a leader in innovation, we are stagnating, with fewer startups and tech companies merely serving as local depots for foreign technology. It’s time to break this cycle of complacency and work towards a more vibrant and sustainable economy.

My vision, shaped by the insights of residents, ratepayers, and businesses, focuses on key priorities: increasing investment in science and technology, protecting local businesses while encouraging competition to attract foreign investment, and generating sustainable revenue and energy. Innovation will drive new products and industries, and we must evaluate these based on the value and effective financial management.

Most importantly, I will actively seek input from diverse voices to identify and support industries that will drive our economic recovery, ensuring that the outcome reflects our goal of A New Melbourne, a national hub for innovation, industry and finance.

**Reducing Cost of living/Affordable housing/ UBI **

Under ALP and LNP leadership for decades, Australia has faced rising bureaucracy, corruption and inflation. Living costs, housing and rental prices have surged, burdening families with higher expenses in healthcare and education. We need immediate political reform to tackle these issues.

If elected, I will restore confidence, lower the cost of living, ensure affordable housing, and implement a universal basic income for a balanced lifestyle for all Australians.

I want to keep communication open and respectful while clearly sharing policies. Together, we ensure Australia is a place where everyone lives and works in peace and contentment.

**Build a harmonious society  **

As an immigrant, I have reaped the benefits of Australia’s multicultural policy, which has created a diverse and tolerant society.

However, we are also facing a troubling trend that once vibrant fabric of our society, woven with connections, compassion, and engagement, is now fraying. Many people in our cities now feel isolated and disconnected, putting them at a disadvantage.

I envision an inclusive Australia where everyone is proud, equal, and valued. Fairness, safety, and respect are vital in our interactions. Let’s create a society where everyone can thrive.
